Description
Excavations took place in 1978 ahead of the construction of a new office block. Archaeological work was confined to the latest levels because the new building was being built on piles. Due to a shortage of funds investigation was concentrated on the eastern side of the site where the deposits proved to be most significant. Remains included several Roman buildings of the 1st century and later, post Roman burials, medieval pottery kilns and some medieval/post-medieval buildings.<1> See ECC1289 for watching brief.
