Full Description

During excavations at Middleborough in 1979 (ECC335), an early medieval building (CAT Building 74) was discovered associated with a number of early medieval pottery kilns (MCC430-MCC438). The plan of the building was uncertain, comprising post-holes, stake holes and slots. There were no floors associated with the building but a possible hearth was found to the north of these features (F464). Some of the post-holes had been set in a trench and thus formed a straight line. The function was also uncertain, although it was suggested that the building was associated with the pottery industry (based on proximity to the kilns). The remains were sealed by MCC426 (CAT Building 75).<1>
