During the excavations at Middleborough in 1979 (ECC335), a post Roman unfurnished inhumation burial (F308) was discovered to the south of the site of MCC426 (CAT Building 75).

The burial was one of four on the Middleborough site (see MCC445-MCC448) which lay without coffins in shallow, east-west aligned grave cuts. Although difficult to date, the burials were cut into the post-Roman topsoil and probably pre-date the early medieval pottery industry (second half of the 12th century) on the site as none of the pottery produced in MCC433 and the other kilns was found in the graves.

The complete burial was of an adult female of at least 45 years of age which lay with its head to the east. Fragments of animal bone were found in the grave.<1>
