Full Description

During the excavations at Middleborough in 1979 (ECC335), the partial remains of a Roman building (CAT Building 73) were discovered beneath the remains of the 'New Market Tavern' (CAT Building 76 = MON333). Only two rooms and an east-west passage were exposed of this building. The rooms had tessellated pavements and the floor of the passage was of daub. The mortared foundations of the western room had been robbed in the early medieval period (ELM49).<1>
