Description
Excavation took place on the site of numbers 98-99 High Street prior to its redevelopment. The area available for excavation was known to lie over the south wall of the precinct surrounding the Temple of Claudius, situated between discoveries made in 1931 (ECC808) and 1953 (ECC653). Two trenches were opened and revealed seven periods of activity beginning with an early Roman timber structure. The later foundation platform for the precincts southern boundary was also recovered. This platform supported an arcade.<1><2>
