Description

Excavations in Lewis's Gardens on the site of the future administration block for a bus park continued for a second season in 1958 (see also ECC667). The work was undertaken on behalf of the Colchester Excavation Committee under the direction of K.M. Richardson and examined a strip 100ft x 20ft long, running parallel (N to S) with the wall bounding the Nursery Gardens on the West. A mechanical digger was used to strip the overburden off the site. In the resulting area 88ft x 18ft, the remains of two Roman buildings were identified.<1>
