Medieval Castle Barbican (foundations still exposed), immediately to the south of the Castle Keep and within the upper bailey.

Remains of a large Medieval building (CAT Building 181) of 13th century or later date, identified as part of the Church of the Crouched Friars. Based on the invesitgations to the east in 2007, at 38-40 Crouch Street, the walls recorded in 1988 can be seen to be part of the nave of the church.

In C19 the church was restored and the west tower and south porch rebuilt.

Church damaged by earthquake in 1884 and extensively rebuilt in 1893.

Now the parish church of Stanway after a long period of virtual neglect and service as a chapel of ease to All Saints.

The keep became ruinous early in the C17. Changes were made to the structure in the mid C18.
