Monument record: MCC236 17th century house, Culver Street, Colchester (site of) (Monument)17th century house, at the corner of St Nicholas Street and Culver Street East, Colchester, now demolished. Note that the accurancy of this description is now in doubt, if this description relates to 5-6 St Nicholas Street (formerly Jacks). This work has shown that 5 St Nicholas Street was probably built in the late 15th century, followed by 6 St Nicholas Street in the late 16th or (more probably) early 17th century.

Monument record: MCC3085 Post-Roman topsoil or ‛dark earth’, adjacent to the Ranger Station, Upper Castle Park, Colchester (Element)A Roman layer L14 (not further investigated) was sealed by dark greyish-brown post-Roman topsoil or ‘dark earth’ (L12), which at the south-east corner of the shed was approximately 400-450mm thick. The ‘dark earth’ (L12) was observed in most of the trenches at the Ranger Station, although it was often truncated as a result of later activity.
