Full Description

Norman nave, Roman brick quoins in NE angle of the nave; otherwise mainly of rubble and flint. Nave extended to meet the C13 tower, which has diagonal buttresses added in the C14, and brick battlements with crocketed pinnacles, but cusped lancets. C14 S. aisle with low six-bay arcade of octagonal piers and double-chamfered arches. The aisle windows are also C14. Also in the C14 the chancel was extended (using much puddingstone) and presumably the the chancel arch was widened at this time. Restored by H.W. Hayward, 1862-3, when N. and S. porches were added.<1>-<4><6>

A watching brief was carried out in November 1993 on the excavation of cable trenches in the churchyard. The results were negative, except for a single large stone which appeared identical to those used in the window sills of the church. Record photographs were taken of one trench and of the stone.<1><2>
Excavation of part of inhumation during digging of foundation pits.<5>
