Full Description
Entry in Wire's Diary 22.5.1845 - "Portions of a Roman tessellated pavement has been discovered in a field behind the brewery bottom of North Hill, under it was a quantity of charcoal". According to Hull the site cannot now be closely located and may be the same as 12433. <1> <2> "Wire Album, p9, illustrates in colour three very small fragments of mosaic from a geometric pattern in black, red, yellow and white with a note that they were found in a fiedl behind the brewery when digging for a saw-pit. <1> <3> Other refs given in source 1. <4> <5> "Mosaic recorded 27 September 1844 found in making a saw-pit behind Bowler's Brewery stores". <6>
