Walls are of flint rubble with some brick reused; dressings are limestone and Roman brick (see MCC7181): roofs are tiled.

An Anglo-Saxon structure should await discovery somewhere, perhaps under the present church or a little to the S near the curve of the churchyard.

Section cut across Lion Walk itself, revealed that the earliest metalling sealed post-Roman topsoil and at least one stake-hole.
