Monument record: MCC9291 Burials in the Castle Yard, Colchester Castle (Element Group)P.G. Laver's excavations in 1931-33 revealed 'many burials' within the area of the Castle chapel (MCC2084), but there was 'nothing to indicate that any burials were associated with the chapel' (Drury 1983, p.333). The burials had been interred after the demolition of the chapel, barbican and forebuilding and are thought to date from the late 16th to the 17th centuries when the Keep was used a prison.<1>
