Full Description

Moat surrounds late C16 house. <1> <2> According to OS field report 1976, "the moat is complete, being sub-rectangular in shape and usually water-filled by surface drainage, although at time of survey, dry. It measures 60m NE-SW, 56m NW-SE and the arms have an average width of 6m and a depth 1.5m. The ground surface is level and the causewayed entrance in the NE arm is probably the original". <3> in <2> Complete rectangular moat. Flat enclosure. <5> Sketch plan on back of MSRG card, also on back of SMR sheet. <6> <?> Great and Little Loveney Hall probably to be associated with the family of `Loveney' (1460 according to Morant) `Louenayhalle' also mentioned 1390 in Morant. Family must have been there before 1460. <8> <9>
