Full Description

St Btolphs (South Gate) Medieval gate. Two possible sites for the Roman South Gate. 1: opposite Roman Rye Gate (TL 99832502 - see 12238), but no trace found. 2: two patches of road metal seen on the W side of Queen Street just outside the medieval gate (TL 99882502). <1> <2> Hull discusses the possible siting of South Gate (see 12238) concluding that "it may yet prove to have lain at St Botolphs". <3>
