Full Description

Ten test pits were excavated in West Mersea in 2009, bringing the total to forty-eight as part of Cambridge University's Access Cambridge Archaeology programme of investigation. These were sited to fill gaps not previously excavated, and also to focus on the eastern part of the present village which had seen little previous test pitting. The test pit at 23 Victory road produced a few sherds of medieval pottery. The sparcity of pottery suggests that the area was an area of open fields rather than settlement.<1><2><3>
