Full Description

During excavations at Sheepen in 1970 (ECC488), a Roman palisade slot was discovered. The slot was one of three in close proximity to each other (see MCC1384 and MCC1386). The slots were sunk 1m into the subsoil with vertical sides and flat bases 0.5m wide. The exact purpose of these slots is uncertain but 'small compounds or stockades of conquest period date seem the most likely explanation for them'.<1>
