Full Description
A large patch of metalling relating to this street was uncovered during excavations at 7-15 Long Wire Street, 1979.<1>
Five evaluation trenches were excavated inside the Co-Operative Store, Long Wyre Street. The trenches each measured 2 x 2.5m and were dug by hand. All the trenches produced archaeological deposits of varying depths. Trial trench 2 revealed a metalled Roman street lying directly below the modern concrete slab. This was because part of the Co-Operative building had been terraced down.<2><3>
