Description

Excavations by the Morant Club within the Castle Park (Insula 6) on the site of a building noted in 1906 (ECC648). Excavations were directed by R.E. Mortimer Wheeler. Approximately fifty trenches and pits were opened over the site, despite the need to avoid park path, beds and other features. Some of the better preserved pavements were entirely cleared. The excavations revealed at least two Roman streets, three Roman buildings and two foundation offerings.<1><2>
