Description

Trial excavations were undertaken in the spring of 1971 on the South side of Sheepen prior to the redevelopment of part of the site occupied at the time by a small estate of prefabs. Excavation had to be confined to the fringes of the site where the topsoil was removed from four trenches. Only one of these was excavated as the others appeared to be sterile. The excavated area revealed Late Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman features. Other finds were made during the redevelopment of the site (see also ECC1126).
