Description

The 1977 excavation of a section across Gryme's Dyke (TL 96272370), 64m south of Dugard Avenue, took place where planning permission was granted for the construction of a footpath, and removal of part of the rampart. Most of the bank was bulldozed without archaeological investigation. However, a section was produced across the surviving rampart. The ditch was not sectioned.<1> NB. The report title is 'Gryme's Dyke excavation, 1977', although the text states that the excavation actually took place in September 1976.<1>
