Roman cremation burials and possible bustum burial sealed by post-Roman topsoil or ‘dark earth’, recorded in 2004-5. The dark earth was also encountered during monitoring and recording in 2018.

There were a number of features (various pits and ditches) in Evaluation Trench 2 (at the Garrison Officers Club, St Johns Green) which predated the abbey church (of St John's) sequence. These contained Roman finds, and it is most likely that they were of Roman date. However, given the ubiquity of Roman finds, it is also possible that some could be medieval features containing residual Roman material.

Medieval or earlier churchyard of St James's Church.

Remains of 10th-11th century church, within the NE part of the precinct of St John's Abbey and located to the N. of the site of the Abbey church (see MCC3067), defined during rescue excavations in 1972.
