The church was rebuilt in the C18 and restored in the C19 with reuse on each occasion of much flint and stone rubble and many Roman bricks.

Tessellated pavement found in 1852 under Castle Road, opposite Radnor Terrace, 18 ins. from the surface.

Entry from Wire's Diary, 1855; "Mr Smith, fruiterer, North Hill, informs me that he has discovered a tessellated pavement in the garden in his occupation behind the `Chaise and Pair', North hill".

REd tessellated pavement discovered by workmen planting a goal-post near the centre of the meadow, only 18" below the surface.

All Saints' Church at Shrub End (Bottle End on the First Edition map) was consecrated on 8th April 1845. It was designed by George Russell French, a well-known London architect, and built in 1844, to serve a new parish for the growing population of Stanway and Lexden.
