Full Description

Copford Green is originally shown on the 1777 Chapman & Andre Historic Map, located south of the settlement of Copford. The green is shown on this map to be linear in shape, extending from south to north, following the road. It has an area of 0.7ha. There are a number of buildings surrounding the green, including six listed buildings. These include the Grade II listed C17 Trellis House & Cottage (LB Number: 1238919), the Grade II listed C17 barns to the northwest of Trellis House (LB Numbers: 1273926; 1238920), the Grade II listed C17 Cart Lodge (LB Number: 1238918), the Grade II listed late C18 Green Farmhouse (LB Number: 1273948) and the Grade II listed C16 Pink Cottage (LB Number: 1238922). <1>

Copford Green is then shown on the County Series at 1:2500 Scale Epoch 1 Historic Map (1874-1887), which shows the green has changed quit a bit since 1777. The green has shrunk massively into a small triangular shape. However, the name on the map now labels it simply as The Green. The modern green matches the Epoch 1 map in both shape and size. It is also still known as The Green.<2>
