Full Description

Copford Green Farm is a historic farmstead located on the northern outskirts of the settlement of Copford Green. It is first shown on the 1874-1887 Epoch 1 map. The site is a large detached site, split by School Road, leaving the farmhouse on one side and the barns on the other. Over 50% of the buildings currently survive, along with four listed buildings. These are the Grade II listed late C18 Green Farmhouse (LB Number: 1273948), the Grade II listed C17 cart lodge (LB Number: 1238918), the Grade II listed C17 barn to the northwest of Trellis House & Cottage (LB Number: 1238920), and the Grade II listed C17 barn to the northwest of the barn to the northwest of Trellis House & Cottage (1273926). Those two barns have since been turned into dwellings, along with some modern extensions and buildings. The other buildings were demolished gradually since the Epoch 1 map, one being demolished as late as 1983. The site seems to have change use from agriculture to residential and business, as one building has been converted into offices. The site is situated on land believed to have once been part of Copford Green, which was shown on the 1777 Chapman & Andre Map. The is only historic landscape feature on the site, which is a farm pond. <1>
