Full Description
The listing records The Pink as a 16th century timber-framed house. However, a survey was made of the building by Richard Shackle which clearly indicates the building is much earlier, a standard medieval house plan, hall, parlour and service end with some unusual features, with several later alterations.<1>
The BBC website records, 'It was built in 1472 for a Mr. Gray a weaver who had 10 children to house. The method of building was to lay out the plan of the house and then construct the outer shell with timber. Infill was apple tree branches with the leaves still on, twigs covered with cow dung, mud and straw. The beams were put into place using tongue and groove joints still plainly visible. The roof was thatched. It has recently been re-thatched due to weather damage on the original roof. The owners have been traced with remarkable success from the date of the building. It became the property of the Lord of the manor, namely Bishop Bonner in the 16th century who owned the village. Many houses in this area are very old and picturesque.' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/domesday/dblock/GB-592000-222000/page/14)
