Full Description
Discoveries made in Lion Walk shown on the plan in Wire's Album (copy in source 1) include tessellated pavements; "one composed of small and different coloured tesserae ... it appeared to have been mutilated". No.6 marked on the plan in the extreme SW corner was a great quantity of Roman roof tiles. <1> <2> Hull notes the following entries from Wire's diary: "visited the sewerage works Lion Walk. A Roman pavement has been discovered about twenty feet from Eld Lane"; "foudation higher than the pavement, probably the wall of the room". <1> <3> Mosaic pavement found in 1848 and 1849 in Lion Walk near the S end, c.20ft from Eld Lane opposite a spirit warehouse. <4> Other refs. <5> <6>
