Summary

Entry in Wire's Diary, 1844; "Mr Joseph Dennis, Clerk of the Lion Walk Chapel, informs me that when he was digging a grave for the son of Mr JB Harvey (c.30ft E of Lion Walk) in the chapel ground, he came upon a tessellated pavement.

Full Description

Entry in Wire's Diary, 1844; "Mr Joseph Dennis, Clerk of the Lion Walk Chapel, informs me that when he was digging a grave for the son of Mr JB Harvey (c.30ft E of Lion Walk) in the chapel ground, he came upon a tessellated pavement but could get none of it up whole". <1><2>

Further entry, 1856: "Mr Joseph Dennis, clerk at the Round Meeting, discovered a pavement of red tesserae when digging the grave for Mr Edward Brett near the wall opposite No.5 Lion Walk".<1><3>
