Full Description

Remains of the Roman West postern at St Mary's Steps were found to be a drain though used for access in medieval and later times. <1> <2> <3> At some unknown date the wall over the drain cracked and made access possible. St Mary's Steps were constructed presumably to make access easier. <4>
