Full Description
The meeting point of several Roman roads including that leading to the Balkerne Gate were revealed in excavation by AF Hall, Colchester Grammar School. Hull suggests that the crossing of so many roads here possibly indicates that an important settlement lay here, antedating the colonia and therefore military. <1> <2>
