Full Description

Please refer to excavation report for tile, glass, pottery, clay pipes, coins and tokens. In the Period 3b (c.1500-1650) dump/topsoil AL40 part of a graffito ware vessel, dated to c.1400, bearing an incomplete inscription including the word 'potter' was found. Although by this period a surname need not necessarily match an occupation, there is a strong possibility that this is the signature of the potter himself. No evidence of pottery manufacture was found at Osborne Street, but there was a kiln about 200 yards to the south-east.<1>

Over 300 leather scraps were recovered derived from contexts ranging in date from Roman to modern, as waterlogged conditions were present onsite. Pieces from the 12th-13th century suggest a nearby shoe-maker's workshop.<1>
