Full Description

Excavations at various points of Roman Road II at Sheepen revealed traces of an earlier traffic surface beneath it, identified as a Late Iron Age track way.<1>
During excavations on the site in 1970 (see ECC488) a hard surface of fine gravel set in a grey, sandy clay matrix was discovered, the precise edges of which were difficult to define. This 'presumably corresponds to the early track way found in 1930'.<2>
