Full Description

A survey by Richard Shackle suggested the timber-framed building with two bays, of three storeys and with double jetties to the front with a carriage entrance. Shackle suggests the building probably dates to the 15th or 16th century. The upper (2nd) floor has since been removed and the carriageway blocked. In the yard behind there is another range of buildings (three bay building) at right angles, part of the same complex. (The timber-frame of No. 2 was also uncovered, and it too probably dates to the 15th or 16th century.)<1>

Dendrochronological dating of this building complex was attempted by Martin Bridge in 2005, to inform a programme of detailed recording during repairs to the building. The lack of rings (only three had 50 rings or more) in the majority of timbers (9 samples from the primary timbers), however, precluded dendro dating.<2>
