Monument record MCC3442 - Congregational Church, Lion Walk, Colchester

Summary

Mid 19th century congregational church by Frederick Barnes of Ipswich, erected 1863 and demolished (apart from the 125-foot spire at the north-west corner of the nave) in 1984 (and replaced by the United Reformed Church). The Congregational Church was itself on the site of the Round Meeting House, built in 1766 and demolished in 1862 (to make way for this church).

Full Description

Mid C19 congregational church by Frederick Barnes of Ipswich.<1>

Kentish rag with Caen stone dressings. The top section was rebuilt 1885 by Roger Smith & Gale following the 1884 earthquake.<2>
