Full Description

A Roman mosaic pavement (F507) on a gravel foundation discovered in Trench 5 at Long Wyre Street Co-op Evaluation. There was a plain red border on the south side of the trench indicating that the south edge of the room lay in this direction, while the centre of the floor must be within or slightly north of Trench 5. Next to the red border were 5 rows of white tesserae, and then a black bordered, two strand, red, white and creamguilloche rope-knot design. North of that was an alternating black and white dogs-tooth decorated border. The main motif of the floor was not seen.<1><2><3>
