Full Description

A robbed-out Roman wall was discovered during excavations by Colchester Archaeological Group at St Mary's Rectory in 1965 (ECC942). The wall ran north-south and included fragments of its lower course at a depth of 71 in. below the surface. Adjacent and at right angles to it was an east-west wall (see MCC2035). This wall together with other adjacent walls (MCC2036, MCC2037) and a tessellated pavement (MCC2039) were interpreted by the excavator as belonging to a 4th century 'dwelling house'.<1>
