Full Description

A pottery vessel labelled, "Early 1st century Roman two handled jug found in 13 Oxford Road, Colchester, 16th August 1965 by H.C. Calver".
According to the assistant museum curator Paul Sealey, "the form is without parallel at Colchester, Chelmsford or London. Its fine red fabric does not correspond to any pottery industries that supplied Roman Colchester or indeed to Colchester products themselves". It is possible that that it is a Gaulish import.
