Description

A pottery vessel labelled "Early 1st century Roman two handled jug found in Oxford Road, No 13, Colchester 16th Aug 1965 by H.C. Calver". According to the assistant curator Paul Sealy, "the form is without parallel at Colchester, Chelmsford or London. Its fine red fabric does not correspond to any pottery industries that supplied Roman Colchester or indeed to Colchester products themselves". It is possible that that it is a Gaullish import.
