Full Description
A Roman military building was discovered during excavations at the Telephone Exchange in 1966. Evidence for the building included two north-south gullies with post pits set into them, smaller associated pits, slots and stake holes. The remains of floors were thought to be represented in layers of 'levelling material'. The structure was interpreted as a military building deliberately destroyed prior to the construction of the Roman colonia.<1>
