Full Description

A Roman wall? foundation discovered during excavations at Sheepen in 1955 (ECC489). The foundation was situated to the east of a kiln enclosure (see MCC649 to MCC652). It was comprised of a long line of Kentish ragstone set on a trench foundation of mortar and broken pottery, etc. The ragstone was 19 in. wide. There was no regular facing or coursing present. Both ends were broken but the foundation may have continued to the east. Its purpose is unknown.<1>
