Full Description

A Roman clay retaining wall discovered during excavations at Sheepen in 1959. The wall was built of stiff clay 15 to 18in. wide and at least 3ft. high. It ran behind two pottery kilns (MCC1431 and MCC1432) and may have been constructed as a barrier, perhaps to prevent surface water flow onto the kiln site.<1>
