Full Description

In 1996, the site west of Beverley Road (east of Silvanus Close) where the tombstone of Longinus (MCC1361) had been found became available for redevelopment, and Philip Crummy, invited Colchester Archaeological Group, principally James Fawn, to reinvestigate the area.<1>

On the north side of the road (MCC10057), a haphazard assemblage of reused building materials SP F10 & 11 – brick, tegula and dressed stone – used to create a flattish raised structure, was conjectured to form the base or plinth for some sort of monument, now lost.
