Description

Several trial pits were excavated in the garden of No.17 Beverley Road <1> in an attempt to locate the ditch of a suspected military camp. The pits had to be sunk to a depth of 10 or 11 ft. The results were not very convincing, but did reveal a crossing point and rounded ditch about 16 ft. wide and 5 ft. deep. Three furnaces (a possible crematorium) and an inhumation were also found during the trenching.<2>
