Description

Excavation followed the demolition during the winter of 1959/60 of premises occupying a corner of the High Street and Maidenburgh Street. Excavation was restricted to the west, north and east of the site only as the central area was spanned by steel girders. The excavation was taken to an average depth of 4 feet, which according to L. Gant was insufficient to record a true section. The investigations revealed evidence of the former post medieval structures of the site, including cellars.<1>
