Description

Two week excavation in response to the discovery of rubble foundations in the north west corner of the abbey precinct following the reduction of the ground level by several metres ahead of the construction of a new round about. Remains encountered include two prehistoric pits, a Roman inhumation cemetery, the Anglo-Saxon or Norman church of St John, a medieval dump of soil and later medieval cemetery of two phases.<1><2>
