Full Description

Three sherds of flint-gritted pottery of Late Bronze Age date were found during the excavation at St John's Church in 1972. One came from pit F20 and the others were in medieval graves F23 and F27.<1> The pottery is of the type found in substantial quantities at Sheepen.<1>

A flint was in the backfill of the Roman grave F70 at the St John's Church site, excavated in 1972. Dr John Wymer describes the flint as a Neolithic flake knife with shallow, secondary working. <2>

Four grass tempered, undecorated sherds were found on the site of St John's Church. They cannot be closely dated but may well be Anglo-Saxon.<3>
