Description

Kay de Brisay and members of the Colchester Archaeological Group undertook excavations between 1973/6 of a Red hill (saltern), RH 117, to the east of The Shell Bungalow and straddling the sea wall and extending into the salt marsh (Bonner's Saltings). The red hill covered an oval area 56m x 35m, and the investigations produced briquetage, hearths, evaporation tanks and a quantity of belgic pottery.<1><2>
