Description
Observations and limited excavation during a watching brief at Colchester Garrison in 1994 revealed Late Iron Age (1st century AD) and Roman features, including a series of ditches, evidence of timber structures associated with an oven, and a building with hypocaust. These indicate occupation during the 1st to 3rd centuries in a previously unrecorded locality. A small pit (MCC2843) was also defined at the northern end of the site which contained probable Bronze Age pottery and a number of other pits contained work flint (and are possibly prehistoric).<1><2>
