Description

A trench for a gas main was dug along the north pavement of the High Street in 1927 and cut into a series of Roman walls. A total of four walls were cut through. Other discoveries included seven, or eight tiles laid like a floor, in front of No. 132. A mass of brick and clay about 8 feet wide was found at the entrance to Angel Yard. The only stratified find was an antoninianus of Gallienus, said to have been recovered from under one of the walls.<1><2>
