Monument record: MCC9277 The Freemasons Arms, 14 Church Street, Rowhedge (Building)The building comprised three distinct phases: phase 1, the original 1862 Wright Villa (i.e. the pub was converted from a private house); phase 2, comprising an extension to the south and an external toilet block, dating to c 1911; phase 3, comprising a single storey toilet block, beer store, store rooms and free-standing garage, dating to the 1960’s. It was taken over by the Essex brewer Ridleys in August 1999 and closed in 2007.

Monument record: MCC9288 Finds on land adjacent to 20 St Clare Road, Colchester, 2015 (Find Spot)A strip, map and record excavation was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in March 2015 on land adjacent to 20 St Clare Road, Colchester, in advance of the construction of a new dwelling. Two sherds of Roman pottery were recovered from L2 (the original topsoil, a medium grey/brown sandy-silt which contained very few inclusions other than rounded stones) and a flint blade, which probably dates to the early Neolithic, was recovered from the interface between L2 and the natural. However, no early features were defined - a ditch and six pits were all thought to be of of post-medieval/modern date.

Monument record: MCC9291 Burials in the Castle Yard, Colchester Castle (Element Group)P.G. Laver's excavations in 1931-33 revealed 'many burials' within the area of the Castle chapel (MCC2084), but there was 'nothing to indicate that any burials were associated with the chapel' (Drury 1983, p.333). The burials had been interred after the demolition of the chapel, barbican and forebuilding and are thought to date from the late 16th to the 17th centuries when the Keep was used a prison.<1>

Monument record: MCC9297 Inhumation cemetery to the north of St Botolph's Priory Church, Colchester (Monument)A number undated inhumation burials have been found close to the Priory Church, all to the east/north-east, which are likely to be associated with it and part of the cemetery lying to the north of the church. The limits and full extent of the cemetery, however, have not been established.

Monument record: MCC9310 The Little Horkesley Workhouse, Hey Green (Building)A Parliamentary Report of 1777 records a parish workhouse in Great Horkesley for up to 26 inmates. Presumably, the residents would have been transferred to Lexden, Colchester, following the introduction of the 1834 Poor Act and the construction of the Lexden and Winstree Union Workhouse in 1836. The location of this workhouse is recorded on the 1st Edition 1:2500 map (1874-1887), as the 'Old Workhouse', today as 'Workhouse Cottage'.
