Monument record: MCC9163 Medieval remains at Grey Friars, High Street, Colchester (Element Group)A trial trenched evaluation in the car park of the Adult Community College at Grey Friars, Colchester, in 2007, demostrated the existence of medieval, post-medieval and possibly Roman archaeological features on the site, within the precinct of the Franciscan Friary, founded shortly before 1237 and dissolved in 1538. The friary included a church, hall, infirmary house, lodgings, kitchen, bakery, brewery, gardens, and four acres of land within the precinct wall. Two wall foundations were defined, as well as building rubble, in the evaluation, c.1m below modern ground level.

Monument record: MCC664 Roman and medieval element group, Osborne Street, Colchester (Element Group)Roman revetment and medieval features were defined by limited excavations (in three small areas (A,B,C) of a much larger site), in advance of the construction of a multi-storey car park outside, and to the south, of the walled town, at Osborne Street, 1988-89. These were in addition to the remains of a small Roman building (CAT Building 178) and two late medieval to post-medieval buildings (CAT Buildings 179 & 180)

Monument record: MCC3051 Medieval occupation features, north of Elmstead Road, Colchester (Element Group)Medieval features, comprising ditches aligned NNW/SSE and ENE/WSW, including a possible track/droveway, were defined by archaeological evaluation in 2014 and 2018 and by strip, map and record excavation in 2018, indicating activity and occupation over several phases. Apart from a small quantity of residual prehistoric and Roman material, the more closely-datable finds assemblage (primarily pottery) dates between the 11th to late 15th/early 16th centuries.
